Christian Doctrine pt. 35 The Doctrine of the Christian Life: A Christian’s Witness

Thursday, May 30, 2019

One of the areas involved in the Christian life is the Christian’s witness. Every Christian should be a witness for Christ. That is, he should be engaged actively in bringing others into a saving relationship with Christ. In light of all the New Testament teaches, this must be considered a most important Christian activity.

Precept and example in the New Testament teach us to be witnesses. Some of Jesus’ last words instruct us in this mission (Mt 28: 19-20; Mark 16:15; John 20:21; Acts 1:8). The early disciples understood witnessing to be the responsibility of every Christian, and not simply the task of a specialized group (Acts 8:4).

There seems to be an inner impulse in Christians to be a witness for the Lord. The new life which the Christian receives in Christ creates a desire to bring others to know Jesus (Rom. 10:1). As the Baptist Faith and Message puts it: “The new birth of man’s spirit by God’s Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others” (Art. XI). Sometimes this impulse is not cultivated, and as a consequence, many Christians lose this sense of mission.

If you are a Christian I encourage you to be a bold witness for Christ. If are not a Christian I invite you to trust Him as your personal Savior and Lord. The Bible teaches that whosoever believeth in Him shall have everlasting life (John 3:16). The word “believe” means to trust Him. Have you trusted Jesus? Have you given your life to Christ? I pray that you have. God loves you and so does First Baptist Church.
