SIKESTON — The Sikeston Cultural Development Corporation has been awarded a grant to help support an educational program.

The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a grant of $2,200 to the Sikeston Cultural Development Corporation also known as the Sikeston Depot Museum and Cultural Center in support of the project, “4th Grade Historical Interpretative Tours.”

The “4th Grade Historical Interpretative Tours” is a program presented in conjunction with the elementary division of the Sikeston Public and Private Schools. It is an educational program featuring the history of Sikeston and the undertaking will coincide with the fourth grade program of study about the history of the State of Missouri. The Sikeston Depot Museum & Cultural Center offers an additional dimension to that study and give the students new insights into their own community. Sikeston is home to interesting history and artifacts and the regions which will complement and expand the fourth grade unit of study.

To make the study “come alive,” enactors in period costumes will portray key people and events that helped settle the City of Sikeston as well as the surrounding areas.

The MHC is the only state-wide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
