Kelly Junior, Senior Beta Clubs compete at nationals

Kelly Elementary Junior Beta Club

BENTON, Mo. — Scott County R-4 “Kelly” Elementary, Middle and High School students competed June 15-22 at National Beta Convention in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The competition required students to qualify for nationals at the state level which took place in December at Springfield, Mo. The two divisions include Junior (fourth-eighth grades) and Senior (9th-12th grades) Beta.

The Elementary with sponsor Kristi Kirkpatrick had 19 students compete in 18 competitions. The following students placed in national competition: Ethan King, first in performing arts and fifth in science; Britton Wade, fourth in sculpture; Sam Washburn, 10th in social studies; Jessica Hickman, ninth in language arts; Marissa Wilkerson, eighth in language arts; and club projects:

Abbey Arthur, Lillie Watkins and Lillie Bartlett, fourth with 3-Dimensional Design; Isaac Hupp, Tyson Carr, Marissa Wilkerson and Grandin Buchanan, 10th in Quiz Bowl; Britton Wade, Tye Ruff and Grandin Buchanan, second in Portfolio; and Tyler Meeks, Tye Ruff, Brandon Herrion and Evan Shoaf, first in technology.

The Middle School with sponsor Shelley Houston had 21 students compete in 16 categories: Canon Kirkpatrick, ninth in Handmade Jewelry; Caidith Niswonger, fourth in Mixed Media; Adam Birk, third in Performing Arts; and club project: Jenna Essner, Caidith Niswonger, Trystyn Ziegler and Sophia Lofton, fifth in marketing and communications.

The High School with sponsor Justine Heppe had 11 students compete, and placing at the national national level were Noah Hupp, fifth in Social Studies; and Brandon Carlyle, eighth in Sculpture
