Letter: More options available for nursing home care

Friday, January 17, 2020

Dear Editor:

In response to two articles in Speakout about care in Sikeston nursing homes. Remember, “There’s no place like home.”

If you are unhappy with where your loved one is being treated or cared for in Sikeston, drive a few miles to Bertrand Nursing and Rehab Center. You will find nurses, therapy department and other staff will take wonderful care of you or your loved ones come anytime day or night.

There are always different activities every day. It may be fingernail polishing, crafts, exercise or a trip to Dairy Queen in the summer for ice cream. The food is great and if you don’t like the day’s menu, they will short-order cook you just about anything you want.

If you are looking for a good, clean nursing home for yourself or a family member come check out Bertrand Nursing and Rehab Center. There are several residents that will be glad to discuss their experience with you. There is a phone here for the resident’s use only. That number is (573) 683-4748. By the way, if you have a friend or family member in a nursing home, please take a few minutes occasionally to go by and see them or give them a call. It not only will make your day, it will make their day and know they are not forgotten. Nursing homes do not have to be a warehouse for old people with health problems.

I know this to be true because I am a resident and I love visitors that make a special effort to come by and see me.
