PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — The Portageville High School Prom has been rescheduled.

According to a letter to parents and students Tuesday, Portageville High School Principal Barry Branscum said the prom, originally scheduled for April 25, was tentatively rescheduled for May 22.

“We do need everyone to understand that our first priority is the safety and well-being of all the students and those that want to attend a function such as this,” Branscum said in the letter. “Even though we have chosen May 22 as our new date for Prom, everyone needs to understand there is a possibility that this date could change as well. We simply do not have those answers at the moment.”

Branscum also said May 14 is still set for graduation and no decision on the date had been made at this time.

“As mentioned, we want to make every effort to make this life achievement for our students and their families a reality,” Branscum said. “In the event this date needed to be changed, we are looking at alternatives for this event as well.”
