UPDATED NUMBERS: Scott County sees another big jump in positive cases; Dunklin County has first death

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Scott County increased significantly Wednesday while Dunklin County saw their first death related to COVID-19.

The Scott County Health Department reported 15 new cases Wednesday, upping the county’s total to 39. Of those 39, seven have recovered or are recovering.

The New Madrid County Health Department is still reporting eight positive cases with five active and three recovered.

Mississippi County still has no positive coronavirus cases.

According to the Mississippi County Health Department there are three confirmed cases of employees at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston but none are residents of Mississippi County.

The Dunklin County Health Department announced the first death in Dunklin County related to COVID-19. No further information on the person who died was available.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Dunklin County Health Department has reported 18 cases. Nine have recovered and the status of eight are listed as unknown. Of the 18, 10 have been female with 10 of the cases over the age of 50.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Wednesday afternoon, the state has 4,895 positive coronavirus cases with 147 deaths related to COVID-19.

There have been over 49,000 tests conducted in the state.

The United States has reported more than 26,000 deaths and over 600,000 infections according to data kept by Johns Hopkins University.
