CHARLESTON, Mo. — An additional six inmates at the Charleston prison have tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of inmate confirmed cases to 29, the Mississippi County Health Department announced Wednesday.

The health department said the Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services and Department of Corrections contacted them with the news on Wednesday.

“These new additional positives are from 5 inmates being retested and two more inconclusive results being tested again. All of the new positives are from the same wing as the previous,” the health department said.

Two inmates from another wing were also tested with both of those results coming back negative.

“Please know, we are staying in contact with DHSS and DOC to keep communication flowing,” the health department said.
