Letter: Mourning former mayor

Saturday, May 2, 2020

Dear Editor,

Today, I mourn the passing of Bill Mitchell.

He was a former Sikeston mayor, city council member, businessman, loving husband, father, grandfather and my very good friend. I had the opportunity to serve on city council with him for a couple of years. He served for several years as the Chairman of the Land Clearance and Redevelopment Authority which has had a positive impact on our community.

He was a charter member of the Future I-57 committee which set the project in motion.

Bill had the unique ability to take a problem, dissect it into parts, analysis and come up with a solution that most of the time was the answer. He cared about people and tried to help make Sikeston a better town. He had a lot of friends and was respected across a broad spectrum and age group.

God bless you, Bill. You will be missed.

Mike Marshall,

President & CEO of the Sikeston Regional Chamber and Area Economic Development
