Scott County death toll reaches five

Five people have now died in Scott County as a result of COVID-19 and 16 additional positive cases are being reported in Mississippi County.

The Scott County Health Department reported the fourth and fifth deaths in Scott County late Thursday afternoon. The Health Department did not release any further information on the deaths.

There have been 78 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Scott County with 23 cases currently active and 50 recovered.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Mississippi County now has 49 positive cases, an increase of 16 from Thursday. On Thursday, the Mississippi County Health Department is reporting 33 positive cases of COVID-19 with 31 of those in the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston. As of Thursday the SECC has 40 positive cases with 31 inmates and nine staff testing positive.

The Mississippi County Health Department did report Thursday that there were 400 test kits available to test inmates and employees at the SECC, with some of those being retests from previous targeted tested done in April.

Attempts to contact the Mississippi County Health Department were not successful Friday.

The New Madrid County Health Department is reporting 11 positive cases of COVID-19 with only one active.

There are 24 positive cases in Stoddard County and the Stoddard County Health Department reports only five active cases with 19 recovered.

There are also 24 positive cases in Dunklin County, with only four of those active, according to the Dunklin County Health Department. There have been two deaths in Dunklin County with 18 recoveries.

There are 57 reported cases in Pemiscot County. The Pemiscot County Health Department reports 31 cases are active with five currently hospitalized. There have been three deaths and 23 recoveries.

There are 49 positive cases in Cape Girardeau County with 33 recovered and one death according to the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is reporting 148 additional cases Friday, bringing the total positive tests 9,489. There have been 449 deaths related to COVID-19, up 31 from Thursday. Over 109,000 tests have been given in Missouri.
