Several local counties seeing fewer coronavirus cases

After over a week of increased COVID-19 cases, the number of positive cases has lessened locally.

On Thursday, the Scott County Health Department reported no new cases and on Friday morning the Mississippi County Health Department reported there had been no new cases reported since Monday, with the number of active cases decreasing from 23 to 11.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, there were 230 cases in Scott County with 48 active and 169 recovered. Thirteen deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.

There have been 71 positive cases within the general population in Mississippi County with 60 having recovered.

The Missouri Department of Corrections reports 47 inmates at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston tested positive for the coronavirus with all but one recovered. There were also 20 staff members who tested positive with only three currently active.

The New Madrid County Health Department reported seven new cases late Thursday afternoon, giving the county 94 cases. Of those, 43 are active with 51 recovered and one death related to COVID-19 being reported.

There was only one new case reported late Thursday afternoon by the Stoddard County Health Department, giving the county 161 cases. Of those, 22 are active with 130 recovered and nine deaths related to the virus.

The Cape Girardeau Public Health Center reported just one new case late Thursday, giving the county 391 confirmed cases with 45 probable. There have been 219 recoveries with 212 active cases and three deaths related to the virus.

No new cases had been reported in Dunklin County (138) and Pemiscot County (150) early Friday afternoon.

The DHSS reported there were 868 new cases in Missouri Friday along with 8 deaths. To date, there have been 31.290 positive cases with 1,121 deaths related to COVID-19.
