Area continues to see spike in COVID-19 cases

The area continues to see a sharp increase in positive COVID-19 tests, following a trend around the country.

According to the Center for Disease Control, COVID-19 cases continue to increase nationwide with 79% of jurisdictions reporting an increase in cases. The average daily cases in the last week have increased 20% from the previous week and the highest increases in cases were seen in rural areas.

On Monday afternoon, the Scott County Health Department reported an increase of 94 cases since Friday. Twenty-four new cases were reported Saturday, nine were reported Sunday and 61 were reported Monday.

Currently there are 506 active cases in Scott County with 33 deaths reported since March, while 1,351 have recovered.

The Mississippi County Health Department reported 35 new positive cases since Friday. To date there are 62 active cases in the community with 486 out of isolation and eight deaths.

A free COVID-19 testing event will be held at Old Regions Bank at 127 E. Main Street in East Prairie from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 12.

The Stoddard County Public Health Center has reported 86 new cases since Friday, with 56 new cases reported Monday and 30 cases reported over the weekend.

Currently there are 258 active cases in Stoddard County with 29 deaths reported and 1,094 recoveries.

A free COVID-19 testing event will be held at the Lighthouse Church, 18555 Lighthouse Dr. in Dexter from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 13.

In Dunklin County, there are six more active cases since Friday, with 157 active cases in the county. There have been 1,452 recoveries and 12 deaths according to numbers released from the Dunklin County Health Department.

The Pemiscot County Health Center reported 11 additional active cases since Friday, with 125 active cases in the county with four hospitalizations. There has been 18 deaths and 828 released from isolation.

Four additional deaths were reported in Cape Girardeau County on Monday afternoon, making 60 in the county since March. Currently the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center is reporting 665 active cases with 3,033 recoveries.

Numbers in New Madrid County were not reported as of 9 a.m. Tuesday.
