Most of area lags in giving COVID-19 vaccine

Only about 5.3% of Missouri’s population have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and while Scott County is above the state average, the rest of the area is lagging.

According to numbers released by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, statewide there were 423,839 doses of the vaccine administered, with 326,272 Missourians receiving the first dose, making up 5.3% of the population. Meanwhile, 97,567 Missourians have received both doses.

Locally, Scott County is above the state average, with 8.9% of the population receiving the first dose. So far in Scott County, there were 4,022 doses administered, with 3,390 getting the first dose and 630 receiving the second dose.

The Scott County Health Department last reported 467 active cases in the county with 3,205 recoveries and 75 deaths related to the virus.

Only 5% of Mississippi County residents have received their first dose of the vaccine. In the county, there were 739 doses of the vaccine administered, with 664 residents receiving the first dose and 75 receiving both doses.

The Mississippi County Health Department last reported 45 active cases in the county and 28 deaths. There were 1,219 are out of isolation.

Less than 5% of New Madrid County residents have received the vaccine with 815 doses administered. Seventy residents have received both doses, while 745 have received the first dose.

Currently, there are 19 active cases in New Madrid County. There are 1,984 that are reportedly out of quarantine and 41 deaths related to the virus.

Stoddard County is right in line with the state average as 5.3% of residents have received their first dose. The state reports that they were 1,714 doses administered to Stoddard County residents, with 1,528 receiving their first dose and 185 getting both doses.

Currently, there are 75 active cases in Stoddard County, with 2,814 recovered along with 61 deaths reported.
