Thanks for helping father

I must commend the Sikeston EMS team, Scott County Ambulance, fire department and all those whom were present during the transporting of my father to and from Missouri Delta a couple of weeks ago. He is a virtually wheelchair-bound, elderly, obese gentlemen, whom was in excruciating pain, after experiencing a fall. They had to carry him down stairs, and back up stairs upon his return, which was a challenge, to say the least. But, I thank them all for their efforts, courtesy, and respect while going beyond what’s normally required of them. I wish I could have fed them all some of the fish my mother was trying that evening. But, I just needed to give these individuals their praise and recognition for seeing how they do what they do. I pray God’s continued blessings in your lives.

Not happy with rodeo lineup

Good morning. I just got the paper and it showed the lineup for the Sikeston rodeo entertainment. Saturday night would be a good night to save your money.

Nelly was a similar act that appeared at last year’s rodeo and sold out.

Opposed to bond issue

$2.7 million will not help the Scott County Rural Fire Department raise the ISO Fire Score rating for all Scott County residents. The rural people will not have cheaper insurance. The water lines that were put in are not large enough to use in a fire. Also the Miner Fire Department was not shown in the paper. All these different fire departments are mutual aid to Blodgett. Don’t be fooled by the rhetoric in the paper. We don’t need this tax.

In the story, we pointed out the tax is for the Scott County Rural Fire District. That is why we ran the map, to show people where the fire district is. It is not for all county residents.

Needing to be informed

I have seen a lot of signs around town for Greg Turnbow and Vestor Baker. Is anyone running against them? I just wonder why all the signs if not. Second, what party are they affiliated with? I don’t see it on any one of their signs. I don’t want to vote blindly. Are they ashamed of their party affiliation for some reason? Are they hiding it? Do they run on their parties platform? I’m not going to vote unless I know if I’m voting for a Democrat or Republican because it makes a difference in how our city is run. Please let me know what is going on.

It is Vest Baker, not Vestor and both have opponents. Also, in city elections there are no political party affiliations. The political party platforms don’t exactly encompass most city issues the candidates will face.

No masks in Poplar Bluff

Yes, I was just wanting to know. Here in Sikeston at Walmart you have to wear a mask and you have to wear one and that is a 100% positive. But I went up to Poplar Bluff and the Poplar Bluff Walmart and I could not believe the people and the people working that did not wear masks. I think the Standard Democrat needs to send a reporter up there and investigate why one county has to wear a mask and why one county don’t. I wear a mask all the time. I wasn’t in the store five minutes, I left. I tell my wife and kids, “let’s get out of here.” I went to JC Penney and half had masks. I just went to a couple other places and just parked in a parking lot and I just couldn’t believe were coming in and out. Is Poplar Bluff, is their county restricted where they don’t have to wear masks through the CDC. I think that would be a good things for your reporters to investigate if Poplar Bluff city council is not going by the CDC rules. This is a shame. I won’t go back up there no more unless I go to the lake.

Each county is governed by their own health department who sets their own policies.
