SIKESTON — Enrollment and screening for next year’s kindergarten students in the Sikeston R-6 School District will be April 5-8 at the First United Methodist Church, located at 1307 N. Main St., in Sikeston.

Kindergarten students for the 2022-2023 school year must be 5 years old by July 31.

Parents should call the Kindergarten Center at 471-0653 to make an appointment. Appointments will be taken ahead of walk-ins. The enrollment and screening process will take about two hours, and the child must be present.

In order to be in compliance with both state and local requirements, parents need to provide the school with the child’s state-issued birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card, Medicaid card (if applicable) and proof of residency. Children should be enrolled even if all of these documents are not available; however, these records must be provided before the child begins class on the first day of school.

Parents may bring in documents to copy starting March 28 at the Kindergarten Center. This will save them time at the screening.

Students who will be attending a private or parochial school are also welcomed to be screened. Those schools will be provided the results.

Make-up day for preschool screening will be on April 6. This screening is for children who will be 4 by July 31.
