Cooksey receives scholarship

Tuesday, May 17, 2022

NEW MADRID, Mo. - On May 16, the New Madrid Police Department Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Delaney Cooksey of Matthews.

Delaney, the daughter of Jim and Heather Cooksey of Matthews, ended her four years at New Madrid County Central with a 3.7 GPA. At the same time, she was active in Student Council, BETA Club, National Honor Society, FBLA and many other extracurricular activities. Even with so much involvement, she was still able to keep a job and participate in numerous other community activities.

Delaney plans to attend the Southeast Missouri State University in the fall to major in criminal justice. She has also applied for the Missouri State Highway Patrol youth academy.

The New Madrid Police Department Scholarship was started nine years ago to help pay college expenses for a graduating senior from NMCC. While those seeking a criminal justice degree are given preference, it is not the only factor considered when selecting a recipient. Delaney is the perfect example of a hard-working, well-rounded student that the scholarship is intended to reward, and we are happy that we can help her further her education.
