Morehouse couple plead not guilty to murder charges
NEW MADRID, Mo. — A Morehouse, Missouri, couple entered not guilty pleas to second-degree murder charges in connection with the Aug. 25 death of a child.
According to online court records on Oct. 31, Zackery Scott Murphy and Jazzmine Shea Oehlert waived their rights to preliminary hearings on the charge. It is alleged the child was killed by methamphetamine intoxication as a result of their possession of the controlled substance on or about Aug. 25.
Also Murphy was initially charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Oehlert is also facing charges of four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
On Nov. 11, Murphy was granted a request for change of venue to Pemiscot County. Murphy was set for an appearance in Pemiscot County on Dec. 17.
Oehlert is scheduled to return to court at 10 a.m. Jan. 14 before Circuit Judge Josh Underwood.
