SIKESTON — With Christmas less than a week away, locally-owned merchants in Sikeston have helped families shopping for the holiday season.

Businesses in Sikeston may have the perfect Christmas gift for those who procrastinate on their holiday shopping.

Here are some of the items that families have been  purchasing this Christmas season.

Personal Expressions in Historic Downtown Sikeston has many gift items for purchase this Christmas season. A sale that began Wednesday, Dec. 18 is also helping shoppers’ pocketbooks.

“If you are very last-minute  with shopping, we are even open on Christmas Eve so come on by,” said Dottie Baldwin of Personal Expressions.

Baldwin said they have everything a shopper could possibly think of for a Christmas gift this year.

“Of course, our Christmas ornaments are always popular,” Baldwin said. “We have so many different ornaments, but we also have just Christmas items. What is popular right now is our Tyler Candle products, including the laundry detergent. We also have Christmas candles and certain fragrances.”

Baldwin said they also have other popular items, including themed Christmas trees, jams, sauces, popcorn and hot chocolate mixes.

According to Baldwin, the store offers special hours from from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas Eve. They will be closed Christmas Day.

At J and E Wholesales in Sikeston, they also have some great items that would make the perfect Christmas presents.

“This year we have lots of affordable toys,” said Ellie Collom, owner of J and E Wholesales. “Our 40-ounce tumblers with fun designs have been really popular this year. We have added frozen and refrigerated foods as well.”

Collom said they also have items to make for the perfect Christmas present for adults, including furniture, bedding, mattresses and some electronics.

Collom said J and E will be open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

DeWitt Embroidery in Historic Downtown Sikeston has had a lot of sales going on, too.

According to Teresa DeWitt, owner of DeWitt Embroidery, right now school apparel is very popular.

“I sell apparel for all the schools around here: Sikeston, Kelly, Charleston, etc.,” DeWitt said. “As far as school gear, I have jackets, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and raincoats for children and adults.”

DeWitt also said she has Christmas apparel as well.

“I still have some Grinch items for sale, but we are starting to run low with us being so close to Christmas,” DeWitt said.

DeWitt said her store will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Slusher Farm and Home in Sikeston is also busy this Christmas season. Items that have been popular at Slusher’s are jackets, sweatshirts, sock hats, boots, pants, T-shirts and warm socks.

Slusher’s will also be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
