I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

Sikeston relay teams win two state titles

After the final day of the Class 3 state track meet, the Sikeston boys came away with two state championships and a fifth place finish.
The 4x100 and 4x200 team of Steven Baker, Spenser Clark, Kyland Gross and Nick Nichols won both speed relay championships. The 4x200 team are repeat champions after finishing Saturday with a time of 1:29.11. In the 4x100, Sikeston edged Grandview by one of the narrowest margins by two-tenths of a second with a time of 42.93.
Sikeston's 4x400 relay team (Deterio Newman, Nick Nichols, Zach Harrison, Steven Baker) won fifth with a time of 3:25.35.
Also earning all-state honors (top 8) were Kyland Gross finishing third in the long jump and Tyler McClinton taking fifth in the high jump.
As a team, Sikeston finished with 32.5 points to take fifth.
Dexter's Makayla Waldner earned all-state honors in both hurdle events.
In the 100-meter hurdles, the freshman took third after a time of 15.52. She finished eighth with a time of 47.07 in the 300-hurdles.

* 4x100 relay -- 1. Sikeston (Steven Baker, Spenser Clark, Kyland Gross, Nick Nichols), 42.93.
* 4x400 relay -- 5. Sikeston (Deterio Newman, Nick Nichols, Zach Harrison, Steven Baker), 3:25.35.
GIRLS
Final
* Shot put -- 2. Rashaundra Summers (NMCC), 40-9.
* 100-meter hurdles -- 3. Makayla Waldner (Dexter), 15.52.
* 300-meter hurdles -- 8. Makayla Waldner (Dexter), 47.07.
