I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

SCC all-time scorers list revealed

Extending from my last blog post, here are the top scorers in Scott County Central history...

1. Marcus Timmons -- 2,514 points (133 games)
2. Otto Porter, Jr. -- 2,480 points (117 games)
3. Drew Thomas -- 2,323 points (107 games)
4. Otto Porter, Sr. -- 2,151 points (87 games)
5. Anthony "Moon" Timmons -- 1,807 points (83 games)

Jerry Porter (1,791) and Terry Blissett (1,745) are sixth and seventh. That leaves D.D. Gillespie at eighth, but I'm not sure I would count his numbers (1,772) towards an SCC list. They have his totals as all-time SCC, but we all know he spent time at Bell City during his career. Jreece Johnson (1,682) and Melvin Porter (1,572) round out the Top 10. I'll throw Caleb Johnson (1,502) on the list as an alternate No. 10 incase anyone wants to discredit D.D.'s numbers as "from two different schools"

Also, Otto Sr. holds the SCC record for most rebounds: 1,733 (UNTOUCHABLE!) The next on the list is Kenny Bright with 1,463 followed by Marcus Timmons with 1,437. "Bubba" stands at fourth with 1,192. Fifth is Fred Rowe with 1,180 in just 57 games.

If anyone else would like to know any other stats about SCC, the book I have has tons of information (i.e. -- Most points scored in a single game, all-time steals, assists leaders). For those of you wondering, Bobby Hatchett holds the record for most assists at SCC with...above 600. I could not confirm his official totals. The next closest on that list is Marcus Timmons (surprise, surprise) with 425.

Although I knew he was great before, looking at Otto Sr's numbers, I think, solidifies him as possibly the best player to ever come from this area. He's also fourth on the all-time steals list and fifth in assists. Obviously his son isn't too shabby either, but based purely on numbers..."Papa Porter" may still yet hold that crown.

Hansbrough is the best to come out of this area.

Can't really go wrong there Big. That's the great thing about it though. You have, arguably, three guys that could hold that title and you wouldn't be wrong choosing any of them.

The best from this area in no particular order (modern era).

1. Ricky Frazier

2. Otto Sr.

3. Otto Jr.

4. Marcus Timmons

5. Tyler Hansbrough

You could rank them in any order and it's hard to argue with any order you pick.

If this list would have gone a little past the top ten, like maybe the top 700, I think I could have been on it. How could I score a lot of points when I played with jerry porter and marcus timmons? Can I at least say that because of my unselfishness they flourished? Lol.

Otto Sr's 1700 rebounds is the state record also. 19.9 rebounds per game over a career is crazy.

Yea it's actually pretty amazing how many great players have come from this area. Hansbrough gets my vote because of the competion he played against in high school, ( Monta Ellis,Greg Oden,Mike Conley and Tasmin Mitchell just to name a few i remember.

Hansbrough's team got whipped by the Oden/Conley team so I'm not sure that would cinch it for me. Now if Hansbrough totally dominated I could see the argument then. My vote goes to Otto Jr. He could do it all. Handle it, shoot it, defend. Hansbrough was dominant with size and strength but didn't have the all-around game Otto has. Otto is most certainly the highest draft pick to come out of the area. Tough to argue against that.

Unfortunately, with the mercy rule, Otto Porter Jr.'s, numbers were lower because the starters usually sat the 3rd and 4th quarter with the clock running in the 4th. Had SCC played all nationally ranked teams and didn't have to play the teams in their conference, then his numbers would have been much higher.

Ok they lost by 14 to a team with 2 NBA guys and 3 more D-1 players on the roster. Hansbrough all time leading scorer in ACC history, ACC freshman of the year, ACC player of the year, 3 time ALL-American 1st team, 2nd team All American,Ap National player of the year, John Wooden player of the year, Naismith player of they year. Never lost a game at Duke and only lost to them 1 time. Should i go on!!!

Please do, keep going. I love our local products. He was a great player. Otto is better. If Hansbrough has that kind of resume and he STILL is not the best our area has produced, it goes to show the talent that our area has had.

Can't go wrong with either one. I remember being blown away by Tyler's motor. The kid just never stopped working. Everytime he got the ball in the paint he tried to rip off the rim, he just played so strong. He played exactly how a 6'9 post player is suppose to play.

Nobody is even close to that kind of resume heck Tyler's little brother accomplished what Otto did in college. Now if we are talking NBA yes i agree that Otto has a better suited NBA game but as far as high school and college there is no arguement who was better. Much respect for what Otto has accomplished.
