I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

Morgan leaving Caruthersville, accepted position at Greene Co. Tech

Head football coach Nathan Morgan has accepted a position at Greene County Tech in Paragould, Ark., and will be leaving the Caruthersville football team after four seasons.

Morgan's presence with the Tigers has led to many postseason berths including the Class 2 quarterfinals last season and the semifinal round in 2012. In four seasons with Caruthersville, Morgan had a 43-8 record.

Greene County Tech has a record of 14-30 the last four seasons and last had a winning record in 2009 at 9-3.

The timing of this news is not ideal for either Morgan or Caruthersville. The Tigers will now be scrambling for a replacement and, as of Wednesday night, no information of one being named has been reported.

For Morgan, a coach who returned to a team he played for in high school, I'm sure he would have liked to have made a move sooner. The opportunity came to him and decided it would be best for him and his family and you can't fault anyone for that.

Seems like the right time to leave Caruthersville.

And why is that Dustin? Please explain to me why YOU think it was the right time? You know nothing about Caruthersville or it's situation. Please don't say lack of talent because they're going to have talent for many years to come.

As far as Morgan goes. I support his move 100%. His family comes first and that should outweigh everything. I'm sad to see Morgan leave, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day, he has my support. I think I speak for most Caruthersville fans when I say I appreciate him and everything he has done for the Caruthersville football team and his players. Much more than a coach! Good luck to him at Greene County Tech.

Because history suggests streaks follow streaks in almost anything anywhere. Plus Greene County is one of the top schools in the state of Arkansas in most sports.

With this being said Caruthersville would have been my preseason pick to win its district I think.

I may be a little slow but please explain what the heck this means as far as the coaching change goes.

Greene County Tech has a record of 14-30 the last four seasons and last had a winning record in 2009 at 9-3. Not really top school in state as far as football goes, which is what he will be coaching. Thanks Chris for the stats by the way.

Cheesehead, you or Beef or Judgedog have any ideas on who may take over at Caruthersville? Do you think they will promote from within as it is so close to the season?

I haven't heard anything Preacher. Surely it will be someone from within though who already knows the kids and the system in place. Not much time to do an outside hire and get everyone learning a new system this close to the season.

Dustin, you still didn't answer my initial question. Saying streaks follow streaks really isn't an answer to the question.

Looks like some cville folk are upset and want to take their frustrations out on Dustin. Guys, just because you think that cville football is the holy grail doesn't mean others can't make comments about the situation at hand. Your coach left. Chances are that with the strength of this program any coach that comes in and is qualified and experienced and has the pedigree, that the program won't miss a beat.

Can't say I'm not frustrated. That would be an understatement to say the least. Any time you lose a coach like Morgan, it's tough. You're wrong when you say I'm taking it out on Dustin. I can't count the number of times he makes silly comments on things he knows nothing about. All I ask for him to do was clarify what he meant by that, that is all. Is it wrong me for to ask someone to explain a little more by what they meant? Sure, I could have wrote it a little different but there's no edit button on Semoball. No, we don't think Cville is the holy grail, that's far from the truth. I think it's the other people on here who seem to think that. However I will give my two cents just like everyone else seems to do on here.

I just like to see why he thinks Morgan is leaving Caruthersville at the right time, that is all. As far as me questioning the silly comment goes, how many times have you asked or questioned something someone says on here, whether it made sense or not? I know you and Preacher have had many disagreements on here and no one said to you, you're taking things out on him or being an unhappy fan. Same applies to Dustin and me. I don't see the problem with me asking him to clarify his statement. If he doesn't want to, he has that right not to reply or answer me and I'll accept that. I have no personal problem with Dustin but if I have a question to ask him about something he said, I'm not afraid to ask him. I actually like Dustin and the work he does.

Jimmy Jackson was named head coach last night. Seems like the right choice in my opinion. Dustin, I want some of what you're smoking.
