2014 Media Football Pick 'Em Week 2
To be the man, you have to beat Caruthersville.
The Week 2 Pick 'Em Game of the Week features a Class 2 matchup that has gained a lot of steam since the season began and this time Malden thinks it has what it takes to finally, FINALLY, bring down it's district foe.
According to our panel, there's others who think the same.
Our 10-member panel split in the predictions. Five think Malden. The other five went with C'ville. I went with Caruthersville to once again beat Malden for the seventh straight time. Yes, the Tigers were hammered by Mountain View Liberty. Yes, Malden did the same to visiting NMCC. And yes, Malden is the more experienced team with seniors galore.
But, that hasn't mattered in the past. Malden's last win against Caruthersville was in 2007 and the Liberty loss, although not pretty, is a defeat that most SEMO schools around here would feel as well. Caruthersville has lost a lot of of veteran players from a season ago, but I'm not ready to give the Green Wave the edge just yet. Now, can Malden pull out the win? Absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened at all. BUT, Caruthersville holds on to the streak 35-30.
I also think Cape Central edges St. Charles West 42-40 and Jackson squeaks out a win against Vianney 38-35. Sikeston goes 2-0 on the season against NMCC and East Prairie starts the season with two wins for the first time since 2009. Kelly will have to wait at least one more week for their first win, Poplar Bluff gives Dexter their second loss and Chaffee goes down to Portageville.
That's how I think Week 2 goes down. What do you think?
We have a tie at the top of our Pick 'Em after week one. ESPN Radio's Todd Bonacki and the Southeast Missourian's Trent Singer each missed just one game last week. The Standard Democrat's David Jenkins holds the No. 3 spot and there's a four-way tie for fourth with myself included.
Enjoy Friday everyone!
