I have been with the Standard Democrat sports department since 2007. I took over as sports editor in May of 2011 and have been slightly crazy about sports since I can remember. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and Scott County Central High School. I co-created our sports web show "The Last Word" and my two children, Elijah and CJ. I was married to my wife, Angie, in May of 2014. I love to golf, I am an avid NBA2K gamer and root for the Fighting Irish on Saturdays.

SEMO Conference names its champions and all-conference teams

The regular season left us with a bit of confusion as to who was the SEMO Conference regular season champions. A decision has now been made.

New Madrid County Central, Jackson and Notre Dame have been named the co-champions on the boys side and Sikeston and Dexter have been named the co-champions for the girls.

The uncertainty after the season was caused by unfinished conference schedules. Each boys team finished with two losses but NMCC was not able to play Sikeston due to inclement weather. Both Jackson and Notre Dame finished with a 6-2 conference record while NMCC ended at 5-2.

On the girls side, Sikeston and Dexter were in the same predicament. They each finished with one loss but Dexter was not able to play Poplar Bluff because of the weather. Although Dexter defeated Sikeston, and with the new tiebreaker rule in the SEMO Conference, Dexter's incomplete conference schedule allowed for the tie and the co-champion decision.

Sikeston's share of the conference championship is the first in school history.

Here are the SEMO All-Conference selections for the boys and girls basketball teams. The SEMO all-conference banquet that will announce the boys and girls players of the year will be March 25th in Poplar Bluff.
