Jacob Leonard. Jacob has played baseball at Portageville for three seasons. Jacob exemplifies everything about our program. He has been a grinder and has worked every day to get better and earn an opportunity to play. As a senior, Jacob's hard work paid off as he earned a starting spot in our outfield. What Jacob lacks in raw ability he makes up with heart, determination, and love for his program, teammates and coaching staff. He has played a solid, fundamental outfield this year and has had an excellent offensive season hitting in the bottom of the order. He has proved incredibly productive and is always willing to do little things to help his team be successful. If there is any upperclassmen that I would want my younger guys to emulate it would be Jacob. His selfless attitude and love to play the game hard in all aspects will be greatly missed. Good luck Jacob in your future endeavors! -Scott Seal photo

Bailey Cook. Bailey is a four year member of our program and a three year starter. Bailey has had a very solid career here at Portageville while playing second, first, and pitching. Bailey is not the flashiest player but is one of the more steady players in our program. Bailey has always been dependable in whatever role that has been asked of him. Bailey holds a career .274 batting average with 41 RBI's. What the statistics do not show are the big at bats that Bailey has taken and succeed in pressure situations. None bigger was a huge two out 2-run double Bailey hit in the 2017 district championship to extend the inning that eventually helped propel his team to a district championship. -Scott Seal photo

Alex Riddle. Oh what a difference a year makes! To all of the younger players out there who want to know what good ole' fashion hard work and sweat will do to improve a player please take a look at exhibit A: Mr. Riddle. Alex battled injuries early in his career and finally cracked his way in the lineup as a defensive minded first baseman last year. In his time manning the corner he has been an excellent defender and an error saving machine at first base. We have taken for granted so many times Alex' s ability to save an error with his long reach or soft hands digging a ball out of the dirt to pick up his teammates. That has always been steady. BUT, after the 2017 season, Alex made his mind up that he wanted to become a more-complete player. This winter Alex spent countless hours hitting and working out to improve his body and craft. The end result is that in one year Alex has cut down his strikeouts, bumped his average over 100 points and hit with serious pop this year including 3 home runs. We are going to miss the leadership and energy this young man brings every day. We wish him the best of luck next year as he embarks on a new chapter in his life! -Scott Seal photo

Hunter Gates. Hunter is a four year varsity starter at Portageville and the last couple years has been a main-stay behind the plate. Hunter has a career batting mark of .361 and has never had a season in which he finished under .300. Hunter has excited fans with his ability to run. One of my favorite things to see is when Hunter puts a ball in the gap and gets to fly around the bases. As far as consistency goes, Hunter has been one of our more consistent players. He has matured significantly this year and grown into a good leader. One of my favorite memories I'll have of Hunter of is after winning the district championship last year Hunter was celebrating in pure joy for he and his teammates. It is honestly what coaching is all about. We wish Hunter the best of luck as he moves south to Arkansas and enters a new chapter of his life! -Scott Seal photo
