New Madrid Snow Days

The ice and snow made roads hazardous throughout the region. The Missouri Highway Patrol reported they responded to more than 450 accidents between Feb. 15 and 18, including this one on Interstate 55 just south of New Madrid.

The sled ride for Ramsey Hogan and Skye Ort was a bit bumpy as they headed down the New Madrid River levee on Feb. 19. The recent snow proved to provide optimal sledding conditions for New Madrid residents.

A youngster was still all smiles despite being buried in the snow which covered New Madrid following a series of storms. New Madrid reported lower than average temperatures for several days however, warmer weather is forecast for this week.

A series of storms blanketed the Bootheel with ice and snow, making it difficult to get around. On Feb. 17, Edward Porter used his tractor first to clear his own driveway then began work on his neighbor's driveway.

Everyone was taking a turn on the sled including Hank the dog. Hank and his owner, Laura Ort, were among a group enjoying the snow covered levee for sledding.

Cold temperatures were recorded across the United States last week bringing plenty of ice down the Mississippi River. At the New Madrid Bend ice stacked up along the river banks.

Caleb Moore found it was rough going as he tried to sled down the levee on Feb. 17. His sled hit a bump sending head over heels. However after brushing off the snow Caleb headed back to the top of the hill for another trip down.
