ELGIN, S.C. — Betty Hill Pepper, 81, died Oct. 21, 2018, at the Providence Hospital in Columbia. Born Jan. 1, 1937, in Fulton, Miss., daughter of James Henry and Annie Mae Rhyne Hill, she had lived in Mississippi County, Mo., before moving St. Louis, Mo., where she lived most of her life. She moved to Elgin in 2010. On Dec. 8, 1962, she married Tommy Dean Pepper Sr., who preceded her in death on May 21, 1995. Survivors include: two sons, Dan Long of Elgin and Tommy D. Pepper Jr. of Arnold, Mo.; two daughters, Deborah Robinson of Gilbert, Ariz., and Melissa Harris of Festus, Mo.; three sisters, Judy Hill of Dexter, Mo., Ivanell Hudson of Advance, Mo., and Sue Davis of Sikeston, Mo.; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jerry Robinson; two brothers, Judson B. “J.B”. Hill and Alfred Hill; one sister, Ocell Hamilton; and one grandson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time a 1 p.m. Friday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo. Johnny Hester of Sikeston will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
