EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — George “Bill” Vernon Cogdill Jr., 71, died May 16, 2019, in East Prairie. Born July 4, 1947, in Deventer, son of the late George Cogdill Sr. and Sadie Woodard Cogdill, he was of the Baptist belief. He graduated from East Prairie High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He was stationed in Florida and Georgia serving as an airplane mechanic. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he went to work for Waterfront Services, later known as MissCo Fleet, in Cairo, Ill., as a deckhand. He worked his way up to tugboat pilot. He worked for Cargill too, and when he retired in 2009, he was a tugboat captain with Ingram Barge Line. A master Mason and 32nd Degree Mason, he was a Past Master of the East Prairie Masonic Lodge and a member of the Grand Lodge of Missouri.
