BROSELEY - The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team won their season opener on Wednesday afternoon by blanking Twin Rivers 11-0 in five innings in Broseley.

Sikeston's Molly Brinkmeyer threw a complete game no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking just two.

"She did very well," said first-year Sikeston coach Tiffany Glastetter. "We played solid defense behind her. They only got the bat on the ball a couple times. Our girls were pumped and ready to go."

Sikeston also had a big day at the plate with 11 hits. Beth Ziegenhorn and Emily Coffee led the way with two hits apiece.

Paige Silverthorn went 1-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Whitney Wallace was 1-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Julie Annesser had a double and an RBI.

Allison Blurton, Brinkmeyer and Erin Wibbenmeyer each had one hit with one RBI. Barbara Hobbs had one hit and Kaycie Williams added one RBI.

"Everybody got a chance to bat and they all played their role well," said Glastetter. "They did well hitting and bunting the ball. Our offense is coming around. We got a squeeze play in and we executed well with situational hitting."

Sikeston scored three runs in the first inning and blew the game open with seven runs in the second inning. The Lady Bulldogs tacked on a final run in the fifth inning.

Sikeston (1-0) will host Poplar Bluff on Friday at 4 p.m.
