Bill McFerron

CHAFFEE - G.F. "Bill" McFerron, 83, died Feb. 27, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Nov. 14, 1920, in Advance, son of the late Abner Faster and Grace Edith Bollinger McFerron, he served with the U.S. Army in China, India-Burma Air Offensive in Japan during World War II and received the Bronze Star. He was a conductor with the Frisco Railroad Company and Burlington Northern Railroad in Chaffee from 1946 until retiring in 1980. A member of the First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 1810 and VFW Post 3127 in Chaffee, he was also a member of the United Transportation Union and United Methodist Men.

On July 3, 1946, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Campbell who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, William McFerron of Chaffee; one daughter, Sarah Dumey of Bloomfield; one brother, Kenneth McFerron of Advance; five grandchildren, Darin McFerron, Brooke McFerron and Megan McFerron of Chaffee, Collin Dumey of Corning, Ark., and Kurt Dumey of Bloomfield; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin McFerron and Austin McFerron of Chaffee.

Preceding him in death were one brother, James McFerron; and one sister, Rosemary Pixley.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marty Blakey and the Rev. Watis Harrell officiating.

Graveside military rites will be conducted at Union Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Joe Rice, Howell Rice, Tom Davenport, Lynn Cotner, Pat Brazel and Eric Brazel.
