William Thompson
CHARLESTON - William H. Thompson, 88, died at 2 p.m. April 21, 2002, at the Charleston Manor.
Born March 27, 1914, in Mississippi County, son of the late James Hazzard and Birdie Evans Thompson, he lived his entire life in Mississippi County where he was a farmer until his retirement.
A former member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, he was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a 50-year member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge #407 AF & AM and a 32nd Degree Mason.
On May 4, 1933, he married Edna Mae McElmurry who preceded him in death May 15, 1974.
On Jan. 10, 1976, he married Leona Chappell who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: one son, Bill Thompson of Charleston; two daughters, Eleanor Crowell of Sikeston and Janet Presson of Cape Girardeau; two stepdaughters, Joyce Rolwing and Shelby Welch of Sikeston; one sister, Colleen Glenn of Charleston; four grandsons, Scott Crowell, Lucas Presson, Jason Thompson and John Thompson; two stepgrandsons, Lee Welch and Carl Welch; one stepgranddaughter, Carletta Samons; and four great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-granddaughter.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Harvey and Lottie Thompson.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where Masonic Rites are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at McMikle Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Scott Crowell, Lucas Presson, Jason Thompson, John Thompson, Charlie Glenn, Dale Glenn, Lee Welch, Carl Welch, Bruce Chapman II and Christopher Chapman.
