SIKESTON -- Southeast Missouri racers swept the top two places in all divisions in the second week of action at the Sikeston Drag Strip on Saturday, March 12. Ron Simmons of Cape Girardeau, traveling at 113.32 mph, won the Super Pro division with an elapsed time of 6.066 seconds (6.06 dial-in), easily outdistancing second-place finisher Ken Shankle of Charleston, who ran an elapsed time of 6.847 (6.85 dial-in)...

SIKESTON -- Southeast Missouri racers swept the top two places in all divisions in the second week of action at the Sikeston Drag Strip on Saturday, March 12.

Ron Simmons of Cape Girardeau, traveling at 113.32 mph, won the Super Pro division with an elapsed time of 6.066 seconds (6.06 dial-in), easily outdistancing second-place finisher Ken Shankle of Charleston, who ran an elapsed time of 6.847 (6.85 dial-in).

Shankle averaged 97.15 mph.

In the Pro class, Joey Mitchell of Clarkton took the checkered flag with an average speed of 105.38 mph. Mitchell ran an elapsed time of 6.341 (6.31 dial-in).

Robbie Ruser of Puxico was the runnerup in the Pro division with an elapsed time of 6.837 (6.86 dial-in) at 100.46 mph.

Dave Slayden of Diehlstadt, averaging 92.19 mph, won the ET class with an elapsed time of 7.333 (7.32 dial-in).

Larry Layton of Dexter finished second at 77.20 mph with an elapsed time of 8.806 (8.81 dial-in).

In week three-action at the Strip on Saturday, March 19, Linden Hills of Fremont edged Cecil Whitaker of Dexter for the Super Pro championship.

Hills averaged 133.84 mph with an elapsed time of 5.159 (5.15 dial-in).

Whitaker averaged 131.88 mph in 5.070 seconds (5.08 dial-in).

Donny Drew of Vanduser captured the Pro division with a time of 6.889 (6.87 dial-in) at 96.15 mph.

Jerome Overstreet of LaCenter, Ky., placed second, averaging 80.37 mph in 8.484 seconds (8.46 dial-in).

Layton, a second-place finisher in week two, improved to the top spot in the ET class with a run of 8.791 seconds (8.74 dial-in) at 77.46 mph.

Tre Hammontree of East Prairie took second with an elapsed time of 7.712 seconds (7.65 dial-in) at 87.89 mph.
