EAST PRAIRIE --

Paul R. Stanley, 89, died at 1:15 a.m. Jan. 21, 2004, in the Mercy Franciscan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Born Sept. 7, 1914, in East Prairie, son of the late Pete Stanley and Ruby Morgan Stanley Breeding, he had lived in Mississippi County most of his life, where he retired as a mechanic for Pope Motors in East Prairie. A member of the First General Baptist Church in East Prairie, he had lived the last 10 months in Cincinnati, where he attended the Friendship Baptist Church.

His wife, Geneva Halline Stanley, preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 1987. On June 10, 1989, he married Ruth Evelyn Loomes Stanley, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2000.

Survivors include: one niece whom he raised, Sharon Elaine Cole of Cincinnati; three nephews, Max Pearson of Cincinnati, Gerald Pearson of Memphis, Tenn., and Gary Pearson of Houston, Texas; 10 stepsons, Robert Loomis Jr. of Highland, Ill., James Gothard of Braidwood, Ill., Bill Gothard of Norris City, Ill., Clifford Pate of Allentown, Penn., Alfred Loomes of DeSoto, and Calvin, Dicky, Charlie, Van and Steve Loomes of East Prairie; three stepdaughters, Irene Marti Highland, Lucy Ellis of Braidwood and Patsy Ann Beardsley of Harrisburg, Ill.; and several stepgrandchidlren and great-stepgrandchildren.

One sister, Florence Williamson, and one stepson, Billy Vernon Stanley, preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dale Billingsley officiating.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
