SIKESTON - Rep. Tom Baker of Stoddard County, who is securing dignitaries for the American Legion Cotton Carnival events, announced today that Warren E. Hearnes, secretary of state and Democratic candidate for governor, and Tom Eagleton, attorney general, St. Louis, and Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, will be here Sept. 26 to assist in crowning this year's Cotton Carnival Queen.

SIKESTON - Plans for the 40th annual American Legion Cotton Carnival, set for Sept. 24-29, have been announced. Including in this year's events will be the traditional parade, grape stomp, live entertainment, dance contests and selection of Cotton Tops, Junior Miss, Miss Sikeston and Miss Cotton Carnival. "The American Dream" has been selected as the theme for this year's parade.

MINER - Beatrice McCormick is the resident of the month for September at Miner Nursing Center. A resident of the center since July 31, 1989, she was born in New Madrid. She and her husband, Dixie McCormick, moved to Sikeston and were the parents of three children. Mrs. McCormick worked as a cook until her retirement. Her hobbies are reading and watching television.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Kindergarten Center received an American flag. It was presented to them by the Sikeston Woodmen of the World Lodge 920. Some of the kids were present for the receiving of the flag, too.
