Edith Barnes
DUDLEY - Edith May Rieffer Barnes, 89, died April 29, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 17, 1914, in DeSoto, daughter of the late Henry William and Minnie Ann Minker Rieffer, she was a member of Corinth General Baptist Church near Puxico and the Stoddard County Historical Society and was instrumental in the publication of the Rieffer Genealogy Book. She was a school teacher at Hornersville for many years and worked at the International Shoe Factory in Dexter for 18 years.
On Aug. 13, 1932, at Piggott, Ark., she married Harvey Barnes who preceded her in death on May 21, 1968.
Survivors include: one son, James H. "Jim" Barnes of Dudley; three grandchildren, Garry Wayne Barnes of Dexter, Barry James Barnes of Dudley and Dana Fay Wilson of Cape Girardeau; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Clarence W. Rieffer; and one sister, Minnie Margaret Smith.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ray Placher of Puxico and the Rev. Bob Bradford of Arbor will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery located near Clarkton.
