PERRYVILLE -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs soccer team played a talented Perryville team to the wire Tuesday afternoon on the road, falling 2-0.
"I thought we played a really good game tonight," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "They are one of the best teams in our districts and I think it was one of the most complete games we've played all year."
Perryville took an early lead on Sikeston, scoring at the 12 minute mark of the first half on a goal from Jen Koenig on an assist from Ashley Hadler.
Sikeston held the high-scoring Lady Pirates scoreless the remainder of the first half and trailed by only one goal at the break.
"After getting beat pretty bad to Cape Central last week we changed our lineup and moved Paige Silverthorn back to defense," Long said. "That seemed to ignite us tonight."
The improved Sikeston defense held Perryville without a goal in the second half until the 75-minute mark when Perryville's Chris Schremp scored on an assist from Amber Hacker.
Perryville attempted 14 shots-on-goal while Sikeston attempted 10. Lady Bulldog goalkeeper Audra Wooley had 12 saves on the night.
Sikeston (2-7) will be in action again today when they host Notre Dame at 4 p.m.
