CHAFFEE - Helen Grooms, 71, died at 9:15 p.m. Oct. 1, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 20, 1930, in Wardell, daughter of the late Lonnie and Bertha Mary Scheeter Pratt, she was a cook for the Chaffee Grade School before retiring. She was a member of the General Baptist Church and American Legion Post 389 Auxiliary in Chaffee.

On Oct. 12, 1946, she married Alonzo Grooms who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Jerry Grooms of Jackson; one brother, Leon Pratt of Caruthersville; one sister, Pearl Scheper of Scott City; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eva and Hank Golightly of Chaffee; three grandchildren, Scott Hill of Columbia, Nicole Rehak of Jackson and Roxanne Grooms of California; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gayle Grooms; and one brother, George Pratt.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Vyron Yount and the Rev. Marty Blakey will officiate.

Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley.

Pallbearers will be: Bill Rehak, Leon Patterson, Brandon Patterson, John Statler, Boyd Summers and Ron Whitaker.
