SIKESTON -- The last time Sikeston's softball team faced Farmington, the Lady Bulldogs were defeated 15-0 in three innings.

On Wednesday, Sikeston experienced a bit of deja vu in the opening game of the 4A District 1 tournament, losing to Farmington again by the same score in three innings.

The Lady Knights scored one run in the first inning, three in the second, then threw the mercy rule into effect with 11 in the third.

"The last time we played Farmington, we gave them 12 runs in the first inning, then played pretty well from there," explained Sikeston coach Jenny Hobeck.

"Today we started out playing great, but kind of fell apart in the third inning. Our pitching wasn't real consistent and we made several errors defensively."

Jessica Owens pitched the first 2 1/3 innings for Sikeston, allowing five hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

Kayla Crocker threw the final 2/3 of an inning, giving up one run and four walks with no strikeouts.

Kerri Jones had Sikeston's only hit

. The loss ends the Lady Bulldogs' season with a record of 2-14, one win better than the 1-16 season of 2000.

"It was a building season," said Hobeck. "Both of our pitchers are sophomores and were able to get a lot more game experience. Most of our freshmen also saw a lot of playing time this year. Hopefully, better things are coming."

Sikeston will lose left fielder Kendra Riddle, first baseman Jennifer Walls, outfielder Megan Knickman, and utility player Cindy Valdez to graduation.
