Call 471-6636

If you want to pick up free walnuts, call 683-4308.

This is to the person who put the smart note in the Oct. 16 paper. Just how would you like it if you were going deaf?

I'm calling in regards to the recent SpeakOut regarding the Harry Potter books in our local public library. It seems each decade in recent years I read where we have various forms of entertainment that come under fire. I remember when "Dungeons and Dragons" were under fire. "Smurfs" cartoons, "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" cartoons were under fire and other things along the way. And now it seems Harry Potter is the next target. I come from a religious background and have a strong interpretation of the Bible and I'm not even saying the Almighty might not disapprove of things such as Harry Potter or Dungeons and Dragons and so forth and so on. But for you to ask our library to remove these things is another thing. We have to think about people's rights to check out books. Not everybody in this community is of the same belief as those in the Christian community. If you were talking about the library keeping child pornography books on hand, that would be one thing. But we're talking about Harry Potter books. What damage have they done to people? So far? Not none at all.

This is to the mother who is wanting the Harry Potter books out of the library. You are saying you are for censorship and communism, everything this country stands and fights against. You say in days like this we need to take a stand against evil. I agree. And that stand is against people like you who want to destroy everything this country stands for and that our armed forces are fighting for at this moment. If you don't want your child to read Harry Potter, fine. But don't try to take away mine or anyone else's God-given right to watch, buy or read whatever they choose.

This call is to the supposed Christian parent who has called in to criticize our wonderful public library about the library having a Harry Potter evening. As the person said in SpeakOut, if you have wonders about the author, please research the author. Well, this caller no more researched the author than anybody. The author has never written other adult books on topics of witchcraft and sorcery. The author has written children's books that are wonderful and get children reading. If you want to criticize something, please be educated on the facts before you call with incorrect information and be such a negative person on our library.
