Pearl Lewis
SIKESTON - Pearl Lewis, 85, formerly of East Prairie, died at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 23, 2001, at the Clearview Nursing Center.
Born May 27, 1916, in East Prairie, daughter of the late John W. and Verna Sanders Clifft, she lived in East Prairie most of her life. A graduate of East Prairie High School, she was first employed by City Attorney John Fletcher and later as assistant cashier of the First Bank of East Prairie for many years. She was secretary and treasurer for the Church of God in East Prairie for eight years and attended Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston for the past 25 years.
In 1936, she married Howard Sanders who preceded her in death in 1963. To this union were one daughter, Sherma Humble of Booneville, Ark.; one granddaughter, Linda Hibberd of Kenai, Ala.; one grandson, Kevin Humble of Booneville; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one half brother, seven half sisters and one stepbrother.
On Nov. 27, 1971, she married Raymond Lewis and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1999. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Bernetta Clifft, in infancy.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Carl Addison, pastor of Tanner Street Church of God, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
