Dexter, Hayti win big
DEXTER-- The Dexter Bearcats roughed up the Caruthersville Tigers on Friday, defeating them by the score of 35-0.
Matt Burnett scored in each of the first two quarters with runs of 1, 6, and 2 yards to give Dexter a 21-0 lead heading into the third quarter.
Dexter then scored early in the third quarter on a 56 yard touchdown pass from Preston Clark to Willie Dooley to increase the Bearcat lead to 28-0.
Burnett scored again on a 13 yard run late in the third quarter to seal the victory for the 'Cats at 35-0.
Burnett finished the game with 176 yards on 31 carries. Clark completed 4 out of 9 passes for 95 yards with one touchdown. The leading Bearcat receiver was Dooley, who had two receptions for 65 yards with the TD reception.
Dexter (4-3) will travel to New Madrid County Central on Friday, while Caruthersville will host Malden.
MALDEN - The Malden Green Wave won their first game since Week 1, defeating SEMO South rival Chaffee 38-14 on Friday night.
Malden led just 6-0 after one quarter but exploded for 20 points in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.
"We played as good as we could," said Chaffee head coach Allan Horrell, whose team falls to 2-5. "We were missing some kids but that's no excuse. We'll play anybody anywhere. We were just a little outmanned tonight."
Malden (2-5) standout Karrington Rogers made his return to the football after sitting out most of the season with an injury.
He caught two passes for 70 yards including a 52-yard touchdown reception.
He also intercepted a pass, one of four that the Green Wave picked from Chaffee quarterback Derek Uhrahan.
"We always knew Malden was tough," said Horrell. "When it was 12-0 we were still okay. We were playing pretty well, but when they got that third touchdown then we just started reeling."
Chaffee outscored the Green Wave 14-12 in the second half but it was too little, too late.
Malden scored one of its touchdowns on an 80-yard run with no time remaining.
Red Devils receiver James Reischman caught three passes for 26 yards with a TD.
Dustin Carter caught two passes for 22 yards with a TD. Chaffee will play host to St. Vincent next Friday in a Class 1A, District 1 game.
Malden will play at Caruthersville in a Class 2A, District 1 game.
HAYTI--The Hayti Indians (7-0) shutout the Scott City rams Friday night 41-0.
The Indians finished with 149 yards rushing on 22 attempts. Demarcus Stewart had 91 yards on 10 carries.
Hayti got on top early when Jason Covington scored from six yards out.
Charles Gaines added the PAT to give Hayti the early 7-0 lead.
The Indian defense then added to the score as Robert Peel sacked the Scott City quarterback in the endzone for the safety making the score 9-0.
On their next offensive possession, Stewart broke loose for a 31 yard scamper to paydirt to make the score 15-0.
In the second quarter, Matt Morgan hooked up on a 25 yard TD pass with Danny Mack to make the score 21-0.
Gaines would again add the kick to make the tally 22-0.
With only seven seconds left in the first half, Morgan found William Moore for another 25 yard TD pass to end the half at 28-0.
Stewart would find the endzone again in the third quarter with a 15 yard run and with the Gaines kick, Hayti led 34-0.
Hayti would strike once more in the fourth quarter when Brian Lacey hooked up with Brandon Peoples for a 25 yard touchdown pass.
Gaines added the PAT to make the final 41-0.
Hayti finished with 192 yards passing, with yardage coming from both Morgan and Lacey.
Hayti (7-0) will be back in action on Friday when the travel to Valle.
Scott City (2-5) will also be on the road as they travel to Grandview.
