Bud Spitler

MINER - Burleigh E. "Bud" Spitler, 72, died at 8:25 a.m. March 29, 2004, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Jan. 20, 1932, in Lamar, Ark., son of the late Harley and Minnie Davis Spitler, he served with the U.S. Army for 22 years and was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War eras. A lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans in Dexter, he was also a member of Fraternal Order of Elks, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

On Sept. 14, 1957, at Fort Sheridan, Ill., he married Phyllis Buch who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Burleigh and Cindy Spitler of Brentwood, Tenn.; one granddaughter, McKenleigh Spitler of Brentwood; two brothers, Elmer Spitler and Kenneth Spitler of Sikeston; one sister, Sherley Chamberlain of Dexter; his stepmother, Opal Spitler of Lamar; one half brother, Tommy Spitler of Lamar; and three half sisters, Rita Evans, Rosetta Jones and Yvonne Bohannon of Lamar.

The Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard will conduct military rites at graveside services scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Cemetery Chaplain Ken Swearengin will officiate.

Nunnelee Funeral Chapel of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
