Marshall Dial
PORTAGEVILLE - Marshall R. Dial, 76, died Oct. 31, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born April 17, 1925, in Tiptonville, Tenn., son of the late Wright and Addie Nobles Dial, he was a member of St. Luke and St. John Episcopal Church in Caruthersville. The director of the New Madrid County Library for more than 40 years held a strong interest in local history. He conducted a series of oral history interviews with area residents for a program named "The Stories They Tell."
On Sept. 23, 1960, he married Mary Lynn Marr who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Danny Dodson of Hayti; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Robin Dial of Sikeston; one brother, Harold Douglas Dial of Portageville; one sister, Garnett Dial of Portageville; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Louie Dial, Nobles Dial, Billy Dial, Jack Dial and Richard Dial; and four sisters, Polly Roberts, Christine Heath, Kate Everette and Matt Burrus.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ed Rhodes and the Rev. Joe Porter will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Phil Sweatt, Travis Hill, Russell Dial, Gary Ward, Bob Carter and Francis Hulshof.
