BLOOMFIELD - Augustus "Whitey" Hannel, 72, died Sept. 14, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. BLOOMFIELD - Augustus "Whitey" Hannel, 72, died Sept. 14, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 16, 1932, in Louisville, Ky., son of the late John and Opal Jackson Hannel, he retired as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Bloomfield in 1971 after retiring, where he was a member of American Legion Post 382.

On April 6, 1958, he married Susie Sommers who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Augustus Hannel Jr. of Park Hills; three daughters, Marsha Eaton of Dexter, Karen Hopper of Poplar Bluff and Joy Hannel of Festus; two sisters, Rose Wells of Thompson, Ga., and Dorothy Jones of Florida; and three granddaughters.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home.

The Stoddard County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites at 2 p.m. Friday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.

Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
