SIKESTON - Clay Mitchell has purchased the Sikeston Fruit Market from Bridwell Crenshaw and assumed management of the concern Monday. Mr. Crenshaw will continue to operate the Crenshaw Candy Co.

SIKESTON - For years each succeeding city council has had the problem of what to do about outdoor toilets up for discussion. For years the State Health Department has been prodding the city administration to get rid of them. Monday night the city council acted. It passed an ordinance making it a misdemeanor for any dwelling not to be provided with a flush toilet connected to the sewer system or a septic tank.

SIKESTON - Crew members for the Fourth Annual Kenny Rogers United Cerebral Palsy Telethon busied themselves Thursday evening with the finishing touches of the stage work before the beginning of the telethon at 10 a.m. Saturday. The telethon will be held at the Chaney-Harris Cultural Center Saturday and Sunday.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs held off the Kennett Indians 10-4. Despite a couple of anxious moments in the fourth and fifth innings, Sikeston hurler Chris Barber got the complete-game victory. The JV lost to Caruthersville 2-1 Tuesday afternoon. Joey Watkins and Jared Self each had a hit for the Bulldogs. Chris Gates took the loss for Sikeston.


EAST PRAIRIE - Sam Duvall was elected Ward 3 alderman in Tuesday's special election with 123 votes, while his challenger, Harold Banks, tallied 53 votes. The two men tied in the April 5 municipal election with 102 votes each, necessitating the special election for a two-year term.
