Samuel S. Welker

BLOOMFIELD - Samuel Sterling Welker, 88, died Aug. 27, 2001, at his residence.

Born Sept. 15, 1912, in Blodgett to the late George Oscar and Eliza Willis Welker, he moved in 1947 from Bell City to Bloomfield. A retired carpenter, he attended the General Baptist Church.

On Dec. 11, 1933, he married Helen Dunlap, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Sammie Wayne Welker of Bloomfield; two daughters, Mary Cook of St. Louis and Jean Dunaway of Bonne Terre; and eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one daughter, Winnai Jo Welker; and six brothers and one sister.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Vyron Yount will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Bell City.
