Howard Dixon
CHICAGO, Ill. - Howard Dixon, 61, died Aug. 23, 2001, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born May 18, 1940, in rural Charleston, Mo., son of the late Ozark and Essie Martin Dixon, he graduated from Lincoln High School in Charleston and the Kennedy-King College in Chicago. He was a member of the Soul Reviving Baptist Church where he served as an usher and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired in 2000 from the Chicago Transit Authority.
On Dec. 28, 1991, he married Rosemary Norwood who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gerald Dixon of Baltimore, Md., and Howon Dixon of Chicago; three brothers, William Dixon of Charleston, Sammie Dixon of Saginaw, Mich., and Robert Dixon of Baltimore; four sisters, Callie Rivers and Dorothy Smith of Charleston, Rosemary Smith of Chicago and Pauline Silverado of Danville; and an adopted sister, Henrene Valdez of Chicago.
Friends may call at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston.
Graveside services are scheduled for noon Thursday at the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
