George Ledbetter

CHARLESTON - George W. Ledbetter, 81, died Dec. 31, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Jan. 18, 1922, at Marble Hill, son of the late Harvey J. and Lula Virginia Bell Ledbetter, he lived in Charleston most of his life and attended Abundant Grace Church at Bertrand. He was employed by the City of Charleston Public Works Department for many years before retiring and was a U.S. Army veteran.

In May 1947 he married Bernice Pace who preceded him in death in January 1968.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph E. "Oscar" Ledbetter; and two sisters, Virginia Weakley and Margaret Medlock.

His sister-in-law, Dorothy Ledbetter, survives of Sikeston.

Graveside services were conducted at 10 a.m. today at the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston with Mike Gentry of Bertrand officiating.

McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston was in charge of arrangements.
