Hess Porter

BENTON - Hess Porter, 88, died at 8:55 p.m. Feb. 28, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Aug. 25, 1913, at Morley, son of the late W.C. and Floy Elizabeth Randol Porter Sr., he served as treasurer for Scott County from 1942 until he retired in 1982 and as mayor of Benton for many years. He attended the Benton United Methodist Church.

On Nov. 15, 1939, at Benton United Methodist Church, he married Margaret Adams who survives of Cape Girardeau.

Other survivors include: one son, David Porter, of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Peggy James of Norman, Okla.; one grandson, Shannon Porter; and one great-grandson, Devon Porter.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother and one infant sister.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Benton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Taylor officiating.

Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Morley.
