Gary Poyner
SCOTT CITY -- Gary Lynn Poyner, 57, formerly of Charleston, died at 8 p.m. May 23, 2002, at Barnes-Jewish North Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Oct. 5, 1944, in Success, Ark., son of the late Fremon H. and Ozella Bellah Poyner, he had lived in the Scott City area a number of years where he was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired from Super Value Company after 25 years of service on May 19, 2002.
On March 28, 1975, he married Judy M. Uthoff who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Gary Lynn Poyner Jr. of Scott City; one daughter, Theresa Poyner of Lansing, Ill.; two brothers, Dwayne Poyner and Douglas Poyner of East Prairie; three sisters, Diane Hall of Charleston, Barbara Breithaupt of Natchez, Miss., and Glenda Shankle of Bertrand; one stepbrother, David Poyner of Sikeston; and one stepsister, Betty Martin of Bertrand.
Two sisters and one stepsister also preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where a prayer is scheduled for 7 p.m., followed by the Knights of Columbus rites.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston. Rev. David Coon, pastor of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, and Seminarian Bill Hennecke of the Cardinal Glennon Seminary in St. Louis will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Hall, James Hall, Charles Deal, Warren Palmer, John Slaughter, Maurice Miller, Scott Mainord, Cecil Pikey, Lonnie Stubenrauch and Bruce Glastetter. Bud Young will serve as a special honorary pallbearer.
