SIKESTON - Mrs. Ellis Alcorn entertained members of the seventh grade with a wiener roast Friday night in honor of the birthday of her son, C.D.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - O.T. "Bos" Elder received a service pin from his supervisor, John Brennan, chief switchman, signifying 43 years of employment with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Fellow workers helped him celebrate the event with a dinner in his honor. Mr. Elder came to Sikeston on Jan. 1, 1929, and has worked in this area ever since.

May 22, 1982

GIDEON - Gideon High School will conduct baccalaureate services for the 33 members of the Class of 1982 on Sunday at 8 p.m. William Piatt, will be the guest speaker. At 8 p.m. May 24, in the high school cafetorium, commencement ceremonies will be conducted. The class valedictorian and salutatorian, who have not been named, will address the class and their guests.


CHARLESTON - Hubert DeLay Jr. recently announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for county clerk of Mississippi County.

May 22, 1992

SIKESTON - Two F-15 jet fighters will give a fly over salute to the Veteran's Park dedication ceremony on Monday. The jets are due over the park at 10:15 a.m. They are part of the 131st Tactical Fighter wing based at Lambert Field in St. Louis with the Missouri Air National Guard.


SIKESTON - Sikeston's Aaron Gleason was greeted by several supporters upon his arrival to Sikeston High from Columbia Tuesday night. Gleason was given a hero's welcome after having claimed a share of the Class 4A state golf championship earlier in the day.
