CARUTHERSVILLE - A father and son are in custody for the shooting death of two brothers.
Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell reported his department received a 9-1-1 call at 2:23 p.m. Sunday reporting a shooting at residence at 1425 County Highway 563, which is located on the Missouri-Arkansas line.
Officers from the Mississippi County, Ark., Sheriff's Department and the Blytheville, Ark., police were the first to arrive at the scene followed a short time later by Pemiscot County deputies.
Found shot to death on the living room floor of the trailer were Jeffrey J. Chamness, 42, and his brother, Gregory A. Chamness, 35.
As part of their investigation, officers took a 48-year-old man in custody in Pemiscot County. His son, 27, was apprehended on Highway 60 near Dexter by Missouri State Highway Patrol officers at just after 5 p.m.
Greenwell said no motive for the killing has been established however illegal drugs were located at the scene.
The names of the suspects were not being released pending the filing of formal charges by Pemiscot County Prosecutor Mike Hazel.
